As opposed to the earlier generation when girls used to wear undershirts when their breasts were in the developing stages, the beginners/training bras are now gaining popularity.
The purpose of these bras is to provide just the right kind of support, protection, and modesty the growing up girls require.
When 3 out of 4 adults are wearing the wrong size/kind of bra, children whose bodies are changing daily need some extra care. Mothers may actually question the need for a training bra in the first place, and the answer, of course, varies from person to person.
If the girl has sensitive breasts, they would need the protection.
School going girls need some support and covering beneath their shirts, especially during sports or dance.
In their teens, they would also like a little padding to look more girly like her friends.
Types of Training Bras
Racerback sports bra: No back hooks, generally pulled on over the head, sturdy and protective.
Beginners bra: Less sturdy and more stretchable than sports bras. Midway between bralettes and sports bras. No back hooks. Easy for girls to wear.
Bralettes: Often feminine and lacy in style with pads. They may be halter-style or have narrow straps. Most are pulled on rather than fastened.
